Black People started building the USA 150 years before the nation was even formed. Their collective contribution was so essential to the birth, growth, and survival of the country that ultimately, the United States of America would not exist without them.
Despite their human value, they were legally bought, sold, and valued strictly as property. They were the USA's largest and most profitable investment. The US Constitution itself had to be amended to officially change their status from property to people.
To justify and sustain a horrific forced labor system, an inferior status was written into law for 350 years. The myth of Black inferiority was a government-sponsored lie crucial to America's economic success—a falsehood that underlies today's disparities and remains deeply ingrained today.
