UNPAID LABOR is the term we use to describe the collective contribution of the first 12 generations of black people in America (1607 to 1865). The 10,000,000 people who were victimized in what was first and foremost a horrific labor system also built the nation’s foundation.

When the story of their collective contribution is not told alongside the historic truths of victimhood and agency, American history is distorted and they are robbed of their dignity. They deserve to be honored.

The first 12 generations of Africans in America were vital to the birth, growth, and survival of the United States. By contribution, we mean the collective effort of 10 million people working as Unpaid Laborers for 250 years to form the foundation of our country.
